In this session, we will look at the increasing role of technology in students’ lives, including their personal use at home and at school.
We will discuss the challenges faced by students in navigating their online life; from peer pressure to the addictive nature of social networking sites and gaming. We will look at how parents can equip themselves to deal with these issues. Of course, there are no simple solutions to these challenges, but, through greater awareness of the issues and building your own skills, you can feel more confident in helping your children.
As well as considering the use of technology in the home, we will examine the reasoning and methodologies behind the use of technology in the modern classroom. In doing this, we will explore a snapshot of what the future may hold for the current generation of students.
Facilitator: Eoghan Keegan
Eoghan has five years teaching experience in secondary education in Ireland. He has also worked at Riverside School, in India, which instilled in him a strong interest in design and project-based learning. His desire to engage students in this way led him to organise Ireland’s first student-driven TEDx event, hosted by a school.
Having worked and trained in Ireland, Eoghan moved to Perth where he has worked as a relief teacher, before joining our team. Eoghan is excited about the potential for change in education, as schools seek to adapt to the opportunities and challenges faced by students in the 21st century.
